Skyrim Locations Checklist – Every Map Marker by Hold

Every place on the Skyrim map, hold by hold, with Solstheim and the add-on realms. Tick each one as you discover it and each dungeon as you clear it.

Whiterun Hold

  • Battle-Born Farm – Farm: A farm just outside Whiterun's walls, owned by the Battle-Born clan and worked by Alfhild.
  • Bleakwind Basin – Giant camp: A giant camp in the plains west of Whiterun, with two giants and their mammoths.
  • Broken Fang Cave – Cave: A small vampire den west of Whiterun, with an alchemy lab and an arcane enchanter inside.
  • Chillfurrow Farm – Farm: A farm east of Whiterun owned by Nazeem and worked by Wilmuth. A One-handed skill book lies inside.
  • Dragonsreach – Landmark: The Jarl's great hall at the top of Whiterun, with the court wizard's study, the dungeon and a porch built long ago to hold a dragon.
  • Drelas' Cottage – Shack: The cottage of a hostile mage in the plains north-west of Whiterun, with an alchemy lab and an arcane enchanter.
  • Dustman's Cairn – Nordic ruin: A barrow north-west of Whiterun where the Companions send you for a fragment of Wuuthrad. A word wall for Fire Breath stands in the last chamber.
  • Fellglow Keep – Fort: A ruined keep north-east of Whiterun taken over by renegade mages. The College quest Hitting the Books sends you into its dungeons.
  • Fort Greymoor – Fort: A fort west of Whiterun held by bandits until the Civil War garrisons it. The old maid Agnis lives in its kitchen.
  • Gjukar's Monument – Landmark: A standing pillar in the plains east of Rorikstead, marking where a warrior and his men were ambushed and killed.
  • Goldenhills Plantation (Anniversary Edition) – Farm: A large farm east of Rorikstead that becomes yours to run after its quest, added by the Farming creation.
  • Graywinter Watch – Cave: A troll den in the cliffs east of Whiterun, directly below the Ritual Stone.
  • Greenspring Hollow – Cave: A small animal den north-east of Whiterun, near the road to Dawnstar.
  • Guldun Rock – Giant camp: A giant camp east of Whiterun, with a small cave behind the bonfire.
  • Halted Stream Camp – Bandit camp: A bandit camp north of Whiterun around an iron mine. The spell tome for Transmute Mineral Ore sits on a table inside.
  • Hamvir's Rest – Nordic ruin: A graveyard in the hills north-west of Whiterun, haunted by skeletons and a draugr, with a small crypt beneath.
  • High Hrothgar – Temple: The monastery of the Greybeards, high on the Throat of the World, at the top of the Seven Thousand Steps from Ivarstead.
  • Honningbrew Meadery – Settlement: Sabjorn's meadery south-east of Whiterun, the rival of Black-Briar. The Thieves Guild job Dampened Spirits takes place here.
  • Lund's Hut – Shack: A lonely hut north-west of Rorikstead. Its owner is dead in his bed and skeevers have moved in.
  • Moldering Ruins – Ruin: The broken shell of a tower north-east of Whiterun, the lair of a single vampire.
  • North Brittleshin Pass – Pass: The northern mouth of Brittleshin Pass, south-west of Whiterun. It counts as its own discovery.
  • North Cold Rock Pass – Pass: The northern mouth of Cold Rock Pass, on the Hjaalmarch side of the hills south of Morthal. It counts as its own discovery.
  • Pelagia Farm – Farm: Severio Pelagia's farm south of Whiterun. On your first visit, three Companions are fighting a giant in its fields.
  • Rannveig's Fast – Nordic ruin: A haunted barrow east of Rorikstead with a word wall for Kyne's Peace. The floor in front of the wall is a trapdoor into a warlock's cage.
  • Redoran's Retreat – Cave: A small bandit cave north-west of Whiterun, a common target for bounty work from the Jarl's steward.
  • Riverwood – Town: A mill village on the White River, the first settlement on the road from Helgen. Delphine's inn and the Riverwood Trader are here.
  • Rorikstead – Town: A farming village on the western edge of the hold, on the road to Markarth. Erik at the Frostfruit Inn wants to become an adventurer.
  • Serpent's Bluff Redoubt – Forsworn camp: A Forsworn camp in a ruin south of Rorikstead, with a small crypt holding a treasure chest.
  • Shimmermist Cave – Cave: A glowing cave north-east of Whiterun full of Falmer, ending in a Dwemer chamber guarded by a Centurion.
  • Silent Moons Camp – Bandit camp: Bandits in a small ruin north-west of Whiterun. Weapons made at its Lunar Forge at night carry a unique enchantment.
  • Sleeping Tree Camp – Giant camp: A giant camp west of Whiterun around a glowing tree in a pool. Its sap is a valued drug, and a smuggler hides in the cave behind.
  • South Cold Rock Pass – Pass: The southern mouth of Cold Rock Pass, north-east of Rorikstead above Rannveig's Fast. A troll lives in the short cave between the two entrances.
  • Swindler's Den – Cave: A bandit hideout in the plains west of Whiterun. The Alik'r warriors of In My Time of Need wait at the back, behind a waterfall.
  • The Ritual Stone – Standing stone: A Standing Stone on a hilltop east of Whiterun. Once a day it raises every corpse around you to fight for you.
  • Throat of the World – Landmark: The summit of the tallest mountain in Tamriel, above High Hrothgar. The path opens during the main quest once you learn Clear Skies.
  • Tundra Homestead (Anniversary Edition) – Homestead: A small furnished house east of Whiterun, bought from the Jarl's steward and added by its own creation.
  • Valtheim Towers – Tower: Twin towers joined by a bridge over the White River, east of Whiterun, where bandits demand a toll from travellers.
  • Western Watchtower – Tower: A half-ruined watchtower west of Whiterun. The first dragon of the main quest attacks it, and it only shows on the map once Dragon Rising begins.
  • White River Watch – Cave: A bandit cave overlooking the river east of Whiterun, led by Hajvarr Iron-Hand.
  • Whiterun – City: The trading city at the heart of Skyrim, built in three tiers below the hall of Dragonsreach. Home of the Companions and the first city most travellers reach.
  • Whiterun Imperial Camp – Military camp: The Legion's camp in the hold, in the hills west of Whiterun, used while the Stormcloaks hold the city.
  • Whiterun Military Camp – Military camp: The Stormcloaks' siege camp south of Whiterun. It only exists during the Battle for Whiterun, and only when you fight for the Stormcloaks.
  • Whiterun Stables – Stable: Stables outside the city gate. A horse is for sale here, and a carriage runs to every hold capital.
  • Whiterun Stormcloak Camp – Military camp: The Stormcloak camp in the hold, north of Whiterun near the border with the Pale, used while the Empire holds the city.
  • Whitewatch Tower – Tower: A guard tower north-east of Whiterun. Bandits are attacking it the first time you pass.

Falkreath Hold

  • Ancestor Glade (Dawnguard) – Grove: A hidden grove south-east of Falkreath where Ancestor Moths gather. The Dawnguard quest Unseen Visions takes place here.
  • Ancient's Ascent – Dragon lair: A dragon lair high above Bonechill Passage, with a word wall for Animal Allegiance.
  • Angi's Camp – Camp: The cabin of the hunter Angi, in the mountains south of Falkreath. Her target practice gives up to six free levels of Archery.
  • Anise's Cabin – Shack: The cabin of a kindly old woman across the river from Riverwood. The cellar tells a different story, and she turns on you if she learns you saw it.
  • Bannermist Tower – Tower: A bandit-held tower in the hills north-west of Falkreath.
  • Bilegulch Mine – Mine: An orichalcum mine in the far west of the hold, worked by Orc bandits behind a wooden palisade.
  • Bleak Falls Barrow – Nordic ruin: The great barrow on the mountain west of Riverwood. Two early quests end at its word wall for Unrelenting Force and the Dragonstone.
  • Bloated Man's Grotto – Cave: A wooded cavern north of Lake Ilinalta with a shrine to Talos. The hunt of Ill Met by Moonlight ends here, which changes who lives in it.
  • Bloodlet Throne – Fort: A ruined keep in the mountains south of Falkreath, home to a master vampire who keeps wolves in an arena pit.
  • Bonechill Passage – Cave: An icy tunnel through the mountain south-west of Helgen, leading up to Ancient's Ascent.
  • Cracked Tusk Keep – Fort: A fort west of Falkreath held by Orc bandits. Their chief guards the shards of Mehrunes' Razor in the vaults.
  • Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary – Guild hall: The Brotherhood's home behind the Black Door, west of Falkreath. It shows on the map once their questline, or the order to destroy them, brings you here.
  • Embershard Mine – Mine: An iron mine south-west of Riverwood taken over by bandits, on the road down from Helgen.
  • Evergreen Grove – Grove: A pool in the forest north of Falkreath guarded by spriggans, with a dead alchemist's camp on the bank.
  • Falkreath – Town: Capital of Falkreath Hold, a small town in the pine forest known for the largest graveyard in Skyrim.
  • Falkreath Imperial Camp – Military camp: The Legion's camp in the hold, on the hillside north-east of Falkreath, used while the Stormcloaks hold the town.
  • Falkreath Stormcloak Camp – Military camp: The Stormcloak camp in the hold, by the southern shore of Lake Ilinalta, used while the Empire holds the town.
  • Falkreath Watchtower – Tower: A ruined tower on the road east of Falkreath, occupied by bandits.
  • Fort Neugrad – Fort: A fort on the southern border, south-east of Lake Ilinalta, held by bandits until the Civil War reaches it. A treasure map sits in the upper chest.
  • Glenmoril Coven – Cave: The cave of the Glenmoril witches, north-west of Falkreath. The Companions need their heads to cure lycanthropy.
  • Greywater Grotto – Cave: An animal den south of Helgen where the Jarl sends Thane hopefuls to hunt. Bears, wolves or sabre cats live here by level.
  • Haemar's Shame – Cave: A vampire cave east of Helgen that ends at the Shrine of Clavicus Vile.
  • Half-Moon Mill – Mill: A sawmill on the western shore of Lake Ilinalta. The couple who run it keep odd hours.
  • Halldir's Cairn – Nordic ruin: A cave and tomb south-west of Falkreath where the ghost of the mage Halldir drains passing adventurers. Rjorn's Drum for the Bards College is here.
  • Helgen – Town: The border town where the game begins. After the dragon attack it lies burnt, and bandits move into the ruins.
  • Hunter's Rest – Camp: A hunters' lodge west of Half-Moon Mill, with an Archery skill book on the table.
  • Ilinalta's Deep – Fort: A sunken fort on the northern shore of Lake Ilinalta, held by necromancers. The Black Star quest ends in its depths.
  • Knifepoint Ridge – Bandit camp: A large bandit camp and mine north-west of Falkreath. Boethiah's champion makes his stand in the mine.
  • Lakeview Manor (Hearthfire) – Homestead: The plot north of Pinewatch where you can build a homestead, sold by the Jarl of Falkreath.
  • Moss Mother Cavern – Cave: A spriggan grove in a cave north-west of Lake Ilinalta. A wounded hunter outside asks you to find her friends.
  • North Shriekwind Bastion – Nordic ruin: The upper door of Shriekwind Bastion, on the mountainside south of Lake Ilinalta. It counts as its own discovery.
  • North Skybound Watch – Nordic ruin: The northern end of Skybound Watch Pass, a small ruin on the slopes south-east of Riverwood. It counts as its own discovery.
  • Orphan Rock – Camp: A hagraven's nest on a rock spire east of Helgen. The Temple of Kynareth sends you here for the blade Nettlebane.
  • Peak's Shade Tower – Tower: A ruined tower north of Falkreath where spriggans and animals have gathered.
  • Pinewatch – Shack: A cottage north-east of Falkreath with a bandit hideout behind a hidden cellar door. One of the Stones of Barenziah is in its treasure room.
  • Roadside Ruins – Ruin: A few broken walls beside the road west of Falkreath, home to a spriggan.
  • Secunda's Kiss – Giant camp: A giant camp on a hilltop north of Lake Ilinalta, close to the border with Whiterun Hold.
  • South Brittleshin Pass – Pass: The southern mouth of Brittleshin Pass, west of Riverwood: a short cave through the mountain held by a necromancer and skeletons.
  • South Shriekwind Bastion – Nordic ruin: The lower door of Shriekwind Bastion, in the cliffs north-east of Falkreath: a vampire-held barrow with a word wall for Elemental Fury.
  • South Skybound Watch – Tower: The southern end of Skybound Watch Pass, a bandit-held tower in the mountains north-east of Helgen. The pass between the two ends is one dungeon.
  • Southfringe Sanctum – Cave: A cave south of Helgen held by spellswords under the mage Bashnag, with a spider nest deeper in.
  • Sunderstone Gorge – Cave: A cave of fire mages north-west of Falkreath, on the road to Rorikstead, with a word wall for Fire Breath at the bottom.
  • The Guardian Stones – Standing stone: Three Standing Stones beside the road south-west of Riverwood: the Warrior, the Mage and the Thief. Most characters choose their first blessing here.
  • The Lady Stone – Standing stone: A Standing Stone on an island in Lake Ilinalta. Health and stamina come back a quarter faster.
  • Twilight Sepulcher – Temple: Nocturnal's temple west of Falkreath, behind a guardian ghost. The Thieves Guild questline ends in its Pilgrim's Path.

The Reach

  • Arkngthamz (Dawnguard) – Dwemer ruin: Dwemer ruin of automatons, Falmer and chaurus south-east of Dushnikh Yal. The quest Lost to the Ages leads to the ghost Katria, and her unique bow Zephyr is among the treasure.
  • Bard's Leap Summit – Landmark: The plank at the very top of Lost Valley Redoubt. After a successful jump the ghost Azzadal appears and plays a song that raises Speech.
  • Bleakwind Bluff – Tower: Ruined Nordic tower north-west of Rorikstead, held by a hagraven and Forsworn with a Briarheart. The Two-handed skill book King lies inside.
  • Blind Cliff Cave – Cave: Forsworn cave south-west of Karthwasten where the hagraven Melka is caged. Free her for The Affairs of Hagravens to earn the staff Eye of Melka, and do not kill her captor Petra first or the quest cannot be finished.
  • Broken Tower Redoubt – Fort: Forsworn-held fort east of Karthwasten. A Briarheart in the upper tower carries the key to its prison cell, and The Heart of Dibella is the related quest.
  • Bruca's Leap Redoubt – Cave: Small Forsworn cave south-west of Dragon Bridge, ruled by a Briarheart shaman. Forsworn bounty and Jarl quests often name it.
  • Bthardamz – Dwemer ruin: Large Dwemer ruin west-north-west of Karthwasten, held by Peryite's Afflicted. Starting The Only Cure clears the roots from its entrance, and the boss Orchendor carries the key to the Arcanex elevator.
  • Cliffside Retreat – Shack: A hunter's shack south of Dragon Bridge. The Archery skill book The Marksmanship Lesson is kept inside, and taking it counts as stealing.
  • Cradle Stone Tower – Tower: Small ruined Nordic tower west of Bard's Leap Summit, home to a hagraven. The Alteration skill book Sithis is kept here.
  • Darkfall Cave (Dawnguard) – Cave: Troll and spider cave south of Mor Khazgur. During Touching the Sky the wall behind a basin becomes the portal to Darkfall Passage, the only way into the Forgotten Vale.
  • Dead Crone Rock – Tower: Ruined tower south-south-west of Markarth, home of the hagraven Drascua. The word wall behind her altar teaches Faas (Fear) of Dismay, and the Pommel Stone of Mehrunes' Razor is here for Pieces of the Past.
  • Deep Folk Crossing – Landmark: Ancient Dwemer bridge over a weir in the north of the Reach, with the sealed way into buried Bthar-zel at its end. Arniel's Endeavor and Lost to the Ages both involve it.
  • Deepwood Redoubt – Nordic ruin: Large Forsworn-held ruin west of Dragon Bridge. It opens onto Deepwood Vale, where the unique boots Predator's Grace lie and the way to Hag's End begins.
  • Dragontooth Crater – Dragon lair: Dragon lair north-north-west of Karthwasten, once a Forsworn and hagraven camp. Its word wall teaches Su (Air) of Elemental Fury, and an arcane enchanter stands in front of it.
  • Druadach Redoubt – Forsworn camp: Forsworn camp and cave south of Mor Khazgur. If you side with the Forsworn in No One Escapes Cidhna Mine, Madanach and his followers are found here.
  • Dushnikh Yal – Orc stronghold: Orc stronghold under Chief Burguk. You must become Blood-Kin before the Orcs will trade or train; Burguk teaches One-handed to Master and Gharol teaches Heavy Armor to Expert.
  • Fort Sungard – Fort: Large fort east-south-east of Markarth, first held by Forsworn. It is retaken in The Battle for Fort Sungard, and whichever side wins the Civil War ends up holding it.
  • Four Skull Lookout – Nordic ruin: Small open-air ruin south of Karthwasten, held by bandits. It is one of the places visited in the Destruction Ritual Spell quest.
  • Gloomreach – Cave: Falmer and chaurus cave south-east of Old Hroldan Inn. The Restoration skill book Withershins is inside.
  • Hag Rock Redoubt – Nordic ruin: Forsworn-held ruin south of Markarth, with a Briarheart in his own quarters. The route to Dead Crone Rock runs through its grounds.
  • Hag's End – Nordic ruin: Ruin west of Dragon Bridge ruled by a hagraven. Its word wall teaches Tiid (Time) of Slow Time, and the unique dagger Bloodthorn is here. A hidden room behind the throne holds the Assassin of Old.
  • Harmugstahl – Fort: Small fort north of Karthwasten where the warlock Kornalus experiments on enchanted frostbite spiders. He carries the key to the locked doors.
  • Hendraheim (Anniversary Edition) – Homestead: A Nordic hall added by a Creation as a player home, with its own Hendraheim quest. It has a trophy room for unique weapons, armor and masks.
  • Karthspire – Forsworn camp: Forsworn redoubt and cave east of Markarth. Alduin's Wall sends you through its pillar puzzle to Sky Haven Temple, and a dragon appears here once that quest begins.
  • Karthspire Camp – Forsworn camp: The Forsworn camp below the Karthspire cave, listed with a map marker of its own.
  • Karthwasten – Settlement: Mining town in the north of the Reach, owned by Ainethach. A dispute over Sanuarach Mine starts a quest here, and The Heart of Dibella and Gharol's Message both lead to the town.
  • Kolskeggr Mine – Mine: A gold mine and small settlement east-north-east of Markarth, held by Forsworn until the Kolskeggr Mine quest from Skaggi Scar-Face frees it.
  • Left Hand Mine – Mine: An iron mine and small settlement south-east of Markarth, owned by Skaggi Scar-Face, who gives the Kolskeggr Mine quest.
  • Liar's Retreat – Cave: A cave north-east of Karthwasten whose bandits were overrun by Falmer. The Liar's Retreat quest leads to Rahd's altar, which holds the unique warhammer The Longhammer.
  • Lost Valley Redoubt – Nordic ruin: Massive ruin of Forsworn and hagravens. Its word wall teaches Zii (Spirit) of Become Ethereal, and the plank at the summit is Bard's Leap Summit.
  • Markarth – City: Capital of the Reach, carved into a Dwemer ruin. The House of Horrors, The Taste of Death and No One Escapes Cidhna Mine all begin here, and Hamal trains Enchanting to Master once The Heart of Dibella is finished.
  • Markarth Stables – Stable: The stables just outside Markarth's gate. Cedran sells a horse here, and Banning sells the war dog Vigilance as a follower.
  • Mor Khazgur – Orc stronghold: Orc stronghold led by Chief Larak, who teaches Block to Master once you are Blood-Kin. Borgakh the Steel Heart can be recruited as a follower here.
  • Nchuand-Zel – Dwemer ruin: Large Dwemer ruin below Understone Keep, held by Falmer, with no map marker of its own. The Lost Expedition runs through it.
  • Old Hroldan Inn – Settlement: A remote inn east of Markarth where Tiber Septim once stayed. Sleeping in the Tiber Septim room starts The Ghost of Old Hroldan, and the Two-handed skill book Battle of Sancre Tor lies in that room.
  • Purewater Run – Cave: A small cave south-south-east of Markarth, home to slaughterfish. A copy of the Smithing skill book Cherim's Heart is inside.
  • Ragnvald – Nordic ruin: Ruin north of Markarth where the dragon priest Otar the Mad rests. Two skull keys free him, and the word wall behind his sarcophagus teaches Kaan (Kyne) of Kyne's Peace.
  • Reach Imperial Camp – Military camp: Imperial camp south of Bthardamz and west of Karthwasten, led by Legate Emmanuel Admand. Legate Rikke takes over during The Battle for Fort Sungard.
  • Reach Stormcloak Camp – Military camp: Stormcloak camp west of Liar's Retreat and north-east of Karthwasten. Galmar Stone-Fist takes command during Compelling Tribute and The Battle for Fort Sungard.
  • Reachcliff Cave – Cave: Draugr cave east-south-east of Markarth with a Namira shrine behind the boss room. The Taste of Death leads here, and the cave has two map markers: this one and Reachcliff Secret Entrance.
  • Reachcliff Secret Entrance – Cave: The second map marker of Reachcliff Cave. The hidden exit does not exist until you leave through it from inside the cave during The Taste of Death.
  • Reachwater Rock – Cave: Draugr crypt south of Sky Haven Temple where Forbidden Legend ends at Archmage Gauldur's tomb. The cave can only be fully explored near the end of that quest.
  • Reachwind Eyrie – Dwemer ruin: Small abandoned Dwemer tower west of Reachcliff Cave. The Heavy Armor skill book Chimarvamidium sits on a desk inside.
  • Rebel's Cairn – Cave: Small cave north-west of Rorikstead where the Rebel's Cairn quest ends. Red Eagle's Fury from Red Eagle Redoubt opens its secret door, and Red Eagle's Bane rests on the weapon stand.
  • Red Eagle Redoubt – Cave: Forsworn cave with two camps above it, east of Markarth. Its boss carries Red Eagle's Fury for the Rebel's Cairn quest, and a Forsworn wizard keeps the Alteration skill book Reality & Other Falsehoods.
  • Runoff Caverns (Anniversary Edition) – Cave: Dwemer weather-puzzle dungeon from the Forgotten Seasons creation, with a quest of the same name. The Sky Orchestrator is its final boss.
  • Salvius Farm – Mill: A small wheat farm east of Markarth run by the Salvius family. The miscellaneous quests Gather Wheat and Rogatus's Letter both involve it.
  • Shrine to Peryite – Daedric shrine: Shrine north-east of Markarth and west of Karthwasten. Kesh the Clean waits here with Peryite's quest, The Only Cure.
  • Sky Haven Temple – Temple: The Blades' hidden mountaintop temple, open only once Alduin's Wall is under way. Esbern and Delphine are based here, the unique katana Dragonbane hangs in the armory, and Rebuilding the Blades is run from it.
  • Soljund's Sinkhole – Mine: A moonstone mine overrun by draugr. Perth's Soljund's Sinkhole quest clears it, and a copy of Boethiah's Proving found here can start the Daedric quest Boethiah's Calling.
  • Sundered Towers – Tower: Two linked ruined towers south-east of Karthwasten, held by Forsworn and hagravens. A copy of The Legend of Red Eagle lies inside, and the towers cannot be cleared on their own.
  • The Lover Stone – Standing stone: Standing stone east of Markarth, north of Kolskeggr Mine. Every skill improves 15% faster while it is active.
  • Understone Keep – Landmark: The Jarl's palace inside Markarth, with a map marker of its own. Calcelmo's laboratory is within, and the way down into Nchuand-Zel starts here.
  • Valthume – Nordic ruin: Barrow south-east of Markarth where the ghost Valdar starts Evil in Waiting and the dragon priest Hevnoraak lies in wait. Its word wall teaches Yah (Seek) of Aura Whisper, and an Iron Claw is guarded inside.

Haafingar

  • Blackbone Isle (Anniversary Edition) – Landmark: Haunted island added by the Dead Man's Dread creation. The quest The Restless takes you into its grotto, and the undead-crewed ship there can become a player home afterwards.
  • Blue Palace – Landmark: Jarl Elisif's palace in Solitude, which has a map marker of its own. Sybille Stentor teaches Destruction up to Expert here.
  • Brinewater Grotto – Cave: Small cave north of Solitude whose inner chambers stay closed until Scoundrel's Folly. Enter from the East Empire Company Warehouse for that quest, as the lighthouse-side entrance does not advance it.
  • Broken Oar Grotto – Cave: Small cave north of Solitude held by Captain Hargar and his Blackblood Marauders. The Smithing skill book Cherim's Heart is inside, and Lights Out! is linked to the cave. Finish Ahtar's quest before killing Hargar, or it becomes unavailable.
  • Castle Volkihar (Dawnguard) – Guild hall: Island fortress of the Volkihar vampire clan under Lord Harkon, and the setting for Bloodline. Once you belong to the family, Fura Bloodmouth trains Two-handed to Master and Ronthil trains Speech to Expert.
  • Castle Volkihar Balcony (Dawnguard) – Landmark: The castle's second map marker, a fast-travel point added the first time you use the outside door in Valerica's study. It counts as a separate location for Locations Discovered.
  • Clearpine Pond – Clearing: Pond with a small island west-south-west of Solitude, guarded by spriggans that cannot cross the water. A dead alchemist on the island carries the Alchemy skill book De Rerum Dirennis.
  • Dainty Sload – Shipwreck: Ship crewed by corsairs, docked north of Solitude and south-west of the lighthouse. The Dainty Sload and No Stone Unturned both lead aboard, and the first mate's table holds the Speech skill book A Dance in Fire, v6.
  • Dragon Bridge – Settlement: Milling town south-west of Solitude with the Four Shields Tavern and a Penitus Oculatus outpost. The miscellaneous quests Chop Wood and Gather Wheat both involve it, and Stormcloak soldiers hold it once Solitude has fallen.
  • Dragon Bridge Overlook – Forsworn camp: Small Forsworn camp south of Dragon Bridge with two Forsworn and a novice-locked chest. The game files it under the Reach rather than Haafingar.
  • East Empire Company Warehouse – Dock: Locked warehouse on the docks south-east of Solitude, the East Empire Company's main storehouse in Skyrim. Walking in counts as trespassing, and it is the route into Brinewater Grotto during Scoundrel's Folly.
  • Fort Hraggstad – Fort: Bandit-held fort west of Solitude and one of the Civil War forts. Joining the Legion and The Battle for Fort Hraggstad both involve it, and the Archery skill book The Gold Ribbon of Merit is in its western room.
  • Haafingar Stormcloak Camp – Military camp: Stormcloak camp north-east of Dragon Bridge and south of the Statue to Meridia, led by Istar Cairn-Breaker. Galmar Stone-Fist takes command during The Battle for Fort Hraggstad and Battle for Solitude.
  • Icewater Jetty (Dawnguard) – Dock: Small, remote dock with a boat across to Castle Volkihar, used during Bloodline.
  • Ironback Hideout – Shack: Dilapidated bandit house north-west of Solitude, a short way east of The Steed Stone. The skill book Beggar lies on a table inside.
  • Katla's Farm – Farm: Small farm on the Karth River that doubles as Solitude's stables, where the hostler Geimund sells a horse. Diplomatic Immunity, Gather Wheat and Horse Whisperer are all linked to it.
  • Kilkreath Ruins – Nordic ruin: Ruined temple of Meridia with no map marker of its own, shut until her beacon has been retrieved. Malkoran's corrupted shades hold it, and Dawnbreaker appears when he is destroyed.
  • Lost Echo Cave – Cave: Small Falmer and chaurus cave west of Solitude. The One-handed skill book 2920, Morning Star, v1 is inside and Double-Edged is the linked quest. Its game data files it under Falkreath Hold.
  • Lower Steepfall Burrow – Cave: The lower entrance of Steepfall Burrow, listed with a map marker of its own.
  • Northwatch Keep – Fort: Thalmor-run jail fort north-west of Dragon Bridge, off limits to others. Missing in Action sends you in to free Thorald Gray-Mane, and the Two-handed skill book The Legendary Sancre Tor is inside.
  • Orphan's Tear – Shipwreck: Wrecked ship on the northern coast west of Ravenscar Hollow, held by three bandits. With the Dead Man's Dread creation installed, the boat here sails to Blackbone Isle.
  • Pinefrost Tower – Tower
  • Pinemoon Cave – Cave: Small vampire lair north-west of Dragon Bridge, east of Volskygge. The Illusion skill book Incident at Necrom is on a table by the cage in the bedroom.
  • Ravenscar Hollow – Cave: Hagraven cave west of the Thalmor Embassy. A hagraven carries the key to the cages, one of which holds a bandit asking to be freed, and the Destruction skill book The Art of War Magic sits on a table by a chest.
  • Rimerock Burrow – Cave: Small cave north-west of Dragon Bridge where the conjurer Sebastian Lort works at an arcane enchanter. A Daedra's Best Friend leads here, and The Rueful Axe is on the table only while that quest is under way.
  • Shadowgreen Cavern – Cave: Small cave of spriggans, bears and wolves north-west of Solitude, east of Ravenscar Hollow. There is no boss, and killing the spriggans is what clears it.
  • Solitude – City: Capital of Haafingar, built on a natural arch over the sea, with Castle Dour, the Blue Palace and the Bards College inside. Giraud Gemane teaches Speech up to Master at the College.
  • Solitude Lighthouse – Lighthouse: Lighthouse on the coast north-east of Solitude, kept by the Khajiit Ma'zaka. The chest for Treasure Map III lies to its north-east, below the cliff edge.
  • Solitude Military Camp – Military camp: Stormcloak camp west of Katla's Farm, set up for the assault on Solitude. The iron weapons on a table there are free to take.
  • Solitude Sawmill – Mill: Wood mill south-west of Solitude, owned by Hjorunn and worked by Kharag gro-Shurkul. The miscellaneous quest Chop Wood is linked to it.
  • Statue to Meridia – Daedric shrine: Meridia's shrine west of Solitude, which starts The Break of Dawn if you have not begun it. A word wall a short way uphill to the north-east teaches Dun (Grace) of Elemental Fury, though it can fail to respond until you reload or fast travel away and back.
  • Steepfall Burrow – Cave: Small cave north-west of Dragon Bridge held by frost trolls and ice wolves, the wolves in a chamber behind an underwater tunnel. The Destruction skill book Mystery of Talara, v3 lies with a skeleton in a passage on the north side.
  • Thalmor Embassy – Guild hall: Aldmeri Dominion embassy north-west of Solitude, home of the emissary Elenwen. Diplomatic Immunity and No Stone Unturned both lead here, and you should not enter before Diplomatic Immunity has been given to you.
  • The Katariah – Shipwreck: The Emperor's ship, anchored east of Solitude and present only once the Dark Brotherhood quest Hail Sithis! has begun. It holds the unique scimitar Windshear and the Two-handed skill book King.
  • The Steed Stone – Standing stone: Standing stone north-west of Solitude, east of Fort Hraggstad. It adds 100 carry weight, and armour you wear weighs nothing and no longer slows you.

  • Widow's Watch Ruins – Tower: Small ruined tower west-north-west of Solitude held by a lone hag. The Restoration skill book 2920, Rain's Hand, v4 lies next to an expert-locked chest.

  • Forelhost – Nordic ruin: Nordic ruin south-east of Riften, held by Dragon Cultists and the dragon priest Rahgot. It has a word wall for Storm Call, and Captain Valmir's Siege on the Dragon Cult sends you here.
  • Fort Dawnguard (Dawnguard) – Guild hall: Large fort south-east of Riften and the base of the Dawnguard. It stands in Dayspring Canyon, a separate area.
  • Fort Greenwall – Fort: Large fort north-north-west of Riften. Bandits hold it at first, and it is one of the forts the Civil War lets you take.
  • Froki's Shack – Shack: Small shack south-east of Ivarstead. A Shrine of Talos stands up the slope nearby.
  • Geirmund's Hall – Nordic ruin: Small Nordic ruin east of Ivarstead with draugr, frostbite spiders, skeevers and Sigdis Gauldurson.
  • Giant's Grove – Grove: Grove reached through Fallowstone Cave, where a giant tribe has defiled a shrine to Malacath.
