Chasing Echoes
Slip in through the inlet behind Castle Volkihar and the undercroft beyond it. In the courtyard, find the three crests missing from the moondial and set them back to open a stair, then climb through the ruined tower to Valerica's study. Her journal lists what the portal needs.
- Questline: Dawnguard – Main quest
- Given by: Serana
- Reward: The way into the Soul Cairn
- Add-on: Dawnguard
- Where: Castle Volkihar
How to start
After the reading, Serana takes you aside: her mother Valerica fled with the second scroll, and the castle's walled-off courtyard is the place to pick up her trail.
Good to know
The portal takes finely ground bone meal, purified void salts and soul gem shards, all on the shelves of the study, and a little of Serana's blood.
