Skyrim Civil War Quests – Imperial & Stormcloak Checklist

The war for Skyrim, for the Imperial Legion or the Stormcloaks. Picking a side locks the other out for that character. Tick each one off as you go.

Imperial Legion

  • Joining the Legion: Go to Castle Dour in Solitude and speak to General Tullius, then to Legate Rikke; Hadvar and other Imperial soldiers will also urge you to enlist. Reward: Imperial Legion membership at Auxiliary rank.
  • Get Outfitted: Starts once you have taken the Legion's oath, when General Tullius sends you to the blacksmith Beirand. Reward: A free set of Imperial Armor.
  • The Jagged Crown: Speak to Legate Rikke once you have joined the Legion; she sends you to Korvanjund. Reward: A word of Slow Time.
  • Message to Whiterun: Starts when you give General Tullius the Jagged Crown in Solitude and he hands you a message for Jarl Balgruuf.
  • Battle for Whiterun: Report to Legate Quentin Cipius when Message to Whiterun ends; he sends you to the front line. Reward: Quaestor rank and a levelled enchanted weapon.
  • Reunification of Skyrim: Starts by itself when the Battle for Whiterun ends; report to General Tullius at Castle Dour, then take orders from Legate Rikke at each Imperial camp. Reward: Legion ranks, levelled items and levelled gold.
  • A False Front: Report to Legate Rikke at the Pale Imperial Camp. Reward: Levelled gold.
  • The Battle for Fort Dunstad: Report to Legate Rikke at the Pale Imperial Camp after A False Front; she sends you to an Imperial task force southeast of the fort. Reward: Praefect rank and a levelled sword.
  • Compelling Tribute: Report to Legate Rikke at the Rift Imperial Camp, who sends you to Mistveil Keep in Riften. Reward: Levelled gold and access to the wagon's respawning loot.
  • The Battle for Fort Greenwall: Report for duty to Legate Rikke at the Rift Imperial Camp after Compelling Tribute. Reward: Tribune rank and a levelled item.
  • Rescue from Fort Kastav: Report to Legate Rikke at the Winterhold Imperial Camp, east of Dawnstar. Reward: Legate rank and levelled armour.
  • The Battle for Fort Snowhawk: Report to Legate Rikke at the Hjaalmarch Imperial Camp, where General Tullius sends you. Reward: A levelled sword.
  • The Battle for Fort Neugrad: Report to Legate Rikke at the Falkreath Imperial Camp, where General Tullius sends you. Reward: A levelled sword.
  • The Battle for Fort Sungard: Report to Legate Rikke at the Reach Imperial Camp, northeast of Markarth. Reward: A levelled sword.
  • The Battle for Fort Amol: Report to Legate Rikke at the Eastmarch Imperial Camp once your other assignments are done. Reward: Levelled gold.
  • Battle for Windhelm: Starts by itself when you return to Legate Rikke after the Battle for Fort Amol. Reward: A levelled enchanted sword and the option to buy Hjerim.

Stormcloaks

  • Joining the Stormcloaks: Go to the Palace of the Kings in Windhelm and speak to Ulfric Stormcloak, then to Galmar Stone-Fist. Reward: Stormcloak membership, Fur Boots, Fur Gauntlets, Hide Helmet, Stormcloak Cuirass and the title Unblooded.
  • The Jagged Crown: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist after taking the Stormcloak oath; he sends you to Korvanjund. Reward: A word of Slow Time.
  • Message to Whiterun: Starts when you give Ulfric Stormcloak the Jagged Crown in Windhelm and he hands you his war axe to deliver.
  • Battle for Whiterun: Starts when Ulfric Stormcloak orders you to help take the city; Galmar Stone-Fist then sends you to the Whiterun Military Camp. Reward: The title Ice-Veins and a levelled enchanted weapon.
  • Liberation of Skyrim: Starts by itself when the Battle for Whiterun ends; report to Ulfric Stormcloak in the Palace of the Kings, who names each hold in turn. Reward: Levelled weapons, armour and gold, a full set of Stormcloak Officer Armor, a Windhelm house to buy and the chance to become Thane of Windhelm.
  • Rescue from Fort Neugrad: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Falkreath Stormcloak Camp, who sends you to meet a rescue party near Fort Neugrad. Reward: The title Bone-Breaker, a levelled sword and the right to buy Hjerim.
  • Compelling Tribute: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Reach Stormcloak Camp, who sends you to investigate Raerek, the steward of Markarth. Reward: Levelled gold and access to the wagon's respawning loot.
  • The Battle for Fort Sungard: Report to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Reach Stormcloak Camp after Compelling Tribute. Reward: The title Snow-Hammer and a levelled shield.
  • A False Front: Report to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Hjaalmarch Stormcloak Camp. Reward: Levelled gold.
  • The Battle for Fort Snowhawk: Report to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Hjaalmarch Stormcloak Camp after A False Front. Reward: The title Stormblade, levelled armour and a full set of Stormcloak Officer Armor.
  • The Battle for Fort Dunstad: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Pale Stormcloak Camp; the quest is only offered if the council gave The Pale to the Empire. Reward: A levelled weapon.
  • The Battle for Fort Kastav: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Winterhold Stormcloak Camp; the quest is only offered if the council gave Winterhold to the Empire.
  • The Battle for Fort Greenwall: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Rift Stormcloak Camp; the quest is only offered if the council gave The Rift to the Empire.
  • The Battle for Fort Hraggstad: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Haafingar Stormcloak Camp and join the men preparing to attack the fort.
  • Battle for Solitude: Starts when you report back to Galmar Stone-Fist after taking Fort Hraggstad. Reward: A levelled enchanted sword and the Shrine of Talos restored in Solitude.
