  • Blizzard Rest – Giant camp: A giant camp on a ledge under a rock overhang, about halfway between Dawnstar and Whiterun.
  • Bronze Water Cave – Cave: A small cave of wild animals west of Windhelm.
  • Dawnstar – Town: Hold capital under Jarl Skald the Elder. In the Daedric quest Waking Nightmare you free its people from Vaermina's curse.
  • Dawnstar Sanctuary – Guild hall: A disused Dark Brotherhood sanctuary on the shore north of Dawnstar, behind a black door that asks a riddle. Babette (Alchemy) and Nazir (Light Armor) train up to Master here.
  • Dimhollow Crypt (Dawnguard) – Cave: A medium-sized cave east of Stonehills where Serana is trapped.
  • Duskglow Crevice – Cave: A small cave south of Dawnstar with Falmer, chaurus, bandits and skeevers.
  • Forsaken Cave – Cave: A medium-sized cave west of Windhelm, home to ice wraiths and draugr.
  • Fort Dunstad – Fort: Bandits hold this large fort south of Dawnstar at first. The Civil War quest The Battle for Fort Dunstad targets it, and the Stumbling Sabrecat tavern is inside.
  • Frostmere Crypt – Nordic ruin: A two-zone crypt south-southwest of Dawnstar, held by bandits and the wispmother the Pale Lady. It has a word wall for Ice Form, the unique item The Pale Blade and the Sneak skill book The Red Kitchen Reader.
  • Hall of the Vigilant – Guild hall: A remote lodge south-southwest of Dawnstar where the Vigilants of Stendarr live.
  • Heljarchen Hall (Hearthfire) – Homestead: The Hearthfire plot of the Pale, between Loreius Farm to the south and Fort Dunstad to the north.
  • High Gate Ruins – Nordic ruin: A draugr ruin west of Dawnstar where the dragon priest Vokun waits. The side quest A Scroll For Anska takes you here.
  • Hillgrund's Tomb – Nordic ruin: A small barrow of draugr where Golldir's ancestors rest. The Illusion skill book The Black Arts On Trial is inside.
  • Irkngthand – Dwemer ruin: A large Dwemer ruin west of Windhelm, held by bandits, automatons, Falmer and frostbite spiders.
  • Korvanjund – Nordic ruin: A draugr ruin northeast of Whiterun, reached in The Jagged Crown on either side of the war. Its crypt holds the crown, a Slow Time word wall, an ebony claw, the Light Armor skill book Jornibret's Last Dance and a Conjure Flame Atronach tome.
  • Loreius Farm – Farm: A small farm north of Whitewatch Tower. The Dark Brotherhood quest Delayed Burial has you talk the farmer here into mending a wagon wheel.
  • Nightcaller Temple – Fort: A small fort on the clifftop above Dawnstar.
  • Nightgate Inn – Settlement: An inn west of Windhelm. The Sneak skill book Legend of Krately House is kept here.
  • Pale Imperial Camp – Military camp: Legate Constantius Tituleius usually commands this camp, west of Dawnstar. It is gone once the Imperials hold the Pale.
  • Pale Stormcloak Camp – Military camp: A Stormcloak camp on the south shore of Lake Yorgrim, southeast of Bronze Water Cave.
  • Raldbthar – Dwemer ruin: A medium-sized Dwemer ruin west-southwest of Windhelm.
  • Red Road Pass – Giant camp: A giant camp south-southwest of Dawnstar with a giant and a mammoth. Bandits may already be attacking them when you first arrive.
  • Shearpoint – Dragon lair: A mountaintop dragon lair northeast of Whiterun, guarded by the undead dragon priest Krosis. The word wall teaches the Throw Voice shout.
  • Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon – Daedric shrine: Mehrunes Dagon's shrine, with The Lord Stone on the mountain to its northeast.

  • Weynon Stones – Landmark: A circle of stones between Korvanjund and Fort Dunstad, just south of the path.
  • Windward Ruins – Nordic ruin: An open-domed ruin southwest of Dawnstar, home to skeevers. The College of Winterhold quest Destruction Ritual Spell brings you here.
  • Wreck Of The Brinehammer – Shipwreck: A shipwreck on the Sea of Ghosts shore, northwest of Dawnstar.
  • Yorgrim Overlook – Nordic ruin: A tiny one-room ruin on the mountain slope south of Winterhold, guarded by skeletons. A chest sits behind an Expert-locked gate.

  • The Battle for Fort Dunstad: Speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Pale Stormcloak Camp; the quest is only offered if the council gave The Pale to the Empire. Reward: A levelled weapon.
  • Blindsighted: Meet Karliah and Brynjolf at the Dwemer ruin of Irkngthand, west of Windhelm. Reward: Nightingale Bow, and the Skeleton Key for now.
